Is this at your GP practice?
Having worked in a few I've not known any to do specific STI testing, patients generally have to go to the GUM clinic at the hospital but they could have a specific service they offer.

Having been to the GUM clinic aged 17 :o It was a feet in stirrups job while they swabbed and swiped in various places but that was 10 years ago! I had to pee in a pot and have blood tests for things like HIV and Syphillis. It's not a nice experience at all and the wait to get the results back is horrible. Sorry :(

Chlamydia and Gonorrhea can now be tested via urine and should be routinely offered to anyone under 25 (especially in the North West).

I should add I only had it done because my GP was too incompetent to diagnose a simple vaginal infection

Glamazon - sorry I have to ask but why especially in the North West?:o

Worded that wrong! hahaha just read it back and looks like I'm implying the North West is STI prone! :rotfl:

What I meant was I know they offer the testing in the North West cos that's where I work, the PCT's used to pay the GP's £5 for every test they sent off and all the tests get sent to Manchester. Don't know if it's a national thing or just local.

Where does the time go?

Thanks, i'm not sure wether I should ask about hep and hiv. Ex's new partner is a total sleep around as has been with 9 guys who I know personally plus the rest, most of them without any protection (apparently condoms make her itchy)! What are the chances that I'll need these tests?

have the lot - having gay male friends i have been schooled in the self responsibility of having regular sexual health screens. I'd recommend that both partners go for a full sexual health screen before making a decision about having sex without condoms, so having everything will give you peace of mind when you move on in life and start a new relationship.

As you are glasgow based i would recommend the sandyford but they (and to keep it moneysaving) have had massive budget cuts and drop ins are mental, used to be you had to take a book and wait about an hour now you need to go at 7.30 am and take your lunch :rotfl:

The tests themselves are not that big a deal, a swab from down there and some blood and urine. well worth it for the piece of mind and to annoy any passing guys these tests are much worse for them as they get what was described to me a cocktail unberella thing put the very last place a guy would want it ;)

My partner and I went around 14 years ago. He still cringes to this day at what he describes as a 'canoe paddle' down the end of his you-know-what lol. I didn't think it was that bad.

Just to add also - I've had the implant for about 5 years and haven't had a period. It's one of the side effects/benefits of it :D

Lol I've had mine for 4 years (this is the 2nd one obviously) and never minded not having a period until this happened and I started getting crazy dreams with babies in them!

Thanks everyone for the information, hopefully nurse will be able to help me more tomorrow.

As to the HIV test, I had one of those before and it was free then but that wasn't sexually related, it was because I'd managed to do real damage to myself with a saw at an aids orphanage.

i agree with others if you slept with someone who was sleeping around id get every test done, you may aswell as you cant second guess what you may or may not have caught. as for HIV/syphillis (sp?) it can be done with the blood test, i dont think you have to have councilling because they automatically checked me for it when i was getting booked in with a midwife. good luck x

I went to a walk in clinic in East London to get a full check-up. I thought including blood tests but now I can't remember as it was 6 or 7 years ago. I really think that sexually active people should be going for a sexual health check up with the full range of tests as an everyday matter of keeping well and being responsible to others. If I were you I would have everything done just to be sure :)

It is a bit embarrassing to give your history, but the nurse just asked me yes or no questions which made the whole thing easier, and then just asked for a few clarifications at the end.

I went in today and got swabs and urine done, need to go back next week to get counselled for the blood tests. Turns out our surgery is attached to the sandyford clinic in glasgow and that's why they can offer these tests.

I'll get the results from the swabs when I go back, hopefully everything will be clear and i'll be able to move on :)
