Magnet on Phone Case

Options
I wonder if anyone could put my mind to rest. I am looking at purchasing a case for my phone, however it has a magnectic closure. I know they wouldn't sell them if they did, but surely wouldn't the magnet effect the phone in some way.

Please see photo below. The magnet would be above the screen

Many thanks for your thoughts

thats a good point, i notice the magnet is directly over the speaker, so if anything that would, i guess have and effect on the sound.

though saying that, ive had cases before with magnetic closures and they have never done anything with the screen, i guess you could try and find reviews

The field from a magnet is 'steady state' unlike the field from an electrical source that may be alternating or modulated - therefore the magnet cannot induce any significant currents in the electronics of the phone (unless you insert and remove it from the holder say, 30 times per second!) :D

So no the magnet wont have any effect, if its any comfort I have been using expensive smart phones in belt holders with strong magnetic clasps for many years.

DD had/has one of these and a while ago lost all pics etc in memory. Did wonder about the case.

  • I have a case like this on my phone the only difference is that my magnet is at the back not the front. I did wonder myself if this would make any difference at all.

For a second there I thought this thread was about a new fault with the iPhone 4.
