Tragic outcome

This is only an initial report, but it looks like there was a financial dimension to the tragic events unfolding in Hampshire.

So awful for the family concerned, and everyone who knew them, but also a sobering reminder of the value of the patient, constructive support everyone shows one another on this board.

Stay positive people.

    Hi Mikeone,

If the reason for the deaths/suicides was financial it just goes to show how good this forum really is for providing help, advice and encouragement to people who are desperately short of cash. However, it does remind you how badly debt can affect people.

A tragic loss of life really regardless of the reason
If you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.

Exactly. While the factual information here is obviously very helpful and useful, its the feeling of support and understanding that really adds something to the site.

I suppose no-one will ever know the reasons behind what happened. From what it says in the article, he was in an IVA and coming towards the end of the arrangement, so his financial problems would have been nearly over. If he had stuck it out that little bit longer, he would have been debt free next year. Still, we can all say "if only..." can't we?

I agree it is absolutely essential we try and stay positive and give support to all those who post on these forums in these troubled times.

I have just seen a report on this story, It seems the Guy was facing Bankruptcy. (no good reason to do what he did). This Evening I had my attention brought to a thread, The OP has not been to bright, Regulars on DFW have been sharp with him to say the least.
Martins words ring true again, THIS SITE IS FOR HELP AND SUPPORT, NOT JUDGEMENT.

When reading posts you can't see the persons eyes or expression. I take everyone at face value, until they prove themselves otherwise.

I had decided to end it myself on January the 1st this year, then I discovered MSE and DFW. I was lucky my first reply was sympathetic and supportive. (Cheers Numpty) then I met Niddy:A

I don't want to seem like a drama queen, what I tell you is the truth.
If I had been treated the way some of our older more esteemed members? (they have the stars to prove it?) reply to some new posters.
I would not be here now to post this reply.

I know what you mean Handyman, I've seen some condescending comments on here lately too. :(

It's a terrible tragedy, especially if money troubles have been even a just part of the cause. I remember a guy who comitted suicide a few years ago and his widow was on tv saying how she only discovered the extent of his debts after he died. And how she had a fight on her hands, just trying to get DCA's off her back. She was disgusted with the banks for lending her husband so much money when he clearly wasn't coping with the debt at all. It seems as though nothing much has changed, certainly not judging by the tales on here.

I guess we're all lucky to have found each other on here, I count myself very fortunate to have found this site, it's saved my sanity and very possibly, my house too, so I'll put up with other people's opinions, whether or not I agree with them. It's a small price to pay. Unlike my interest charges, sadly.

These sad events took place fairly close to where I live. Regardless of the location, however, it is an utterly heartbreaking tale. Those poor little tots. I hope they didn't suffer too much.

Like Handyman, I have been in a state where I tried to take my life several times in the past. I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for my dog Jasper (it actually says that on my medical notes!).

Like many others, I have found these MSE Forums a total godsend. They have such a wealth of support, practical advice, and good humour and have really kept me going at times. I seriously believe that Martin deserves something in the Queen's Honours List for what he does and for what he started here.

But I do agree about the harsh posts. I was reading one particular one this afternoon at work (during my lunch break) and a request for some sensible information about a disability living allowance had descended into a spiteful and quite vicious slanging match between two posters - despite the efforts of others (Newbies and Old-Timers) to keep things on track. Only once in my time on here have I felt moved enough to click the "Report Abuse" tab - where profanity and particular cruelty was directed against an individual poster. Perhaps I should make more of an effort to report the more persistent flamers...

For now, all I can really do is pray for the poor family members left behind (particularly the tots' granny, who found them all).:(

Good on you for flagging this up, Mikeone.

It is such a tragic story, and just shows how money can take an evil grip on some people.

Tragic events, and a total waste of four lives.

Martin himself said in a post a while back "he has never seen a debt problem that couldn't be solved".

That message needs to get out there - loud and clear.

This forum has a wealth of knowledge and offers excellent support to all who post, I do think the board has changed recently, but its worth its weight in gold for those in desperate need.
