If you believe that I give up :rotfl:as in :wall::wall::wall:

Admittedly never tried it on brake pipes..... But if you can't see it, it can't fail an MOT
    :rotfl:

Ummm.... I think it's pointless anyway, it's a Suzuki R-wagon! Meaning the OP is probably 80+ years old and not really suited to climbing around under a car... Maybe?

Not worth risking your life to save a few quid on dodgy brakes.

But has a right to be advised to stay safe, even if for the sake of the other, (20 year old driver he/she hits???)

    It always goes deeper;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Ugh, just get a paint brush and whack a load of black hammerite everywhere. Once that stuffs on, it'll never rust again.

I'll not shoot you down about the hammerite as I appear to have been beaten to it :)
Several folks have said wire brush, it's not the best and can damage other underbody protection. Abrasive cloth every time.
Depends how ham fisted you are and the size of the brush you are using doesn't it. I figure some common sense may be required.
Why would you be worried about over spray under the bottom of a car, the more coats the merrier?, no? ;)
Masking off protects both against wild brushing technique but also when you start spraying randomly in wheel wells in a different colour it tends to get noticed. Dunno about you but I'd prefer to not advertise the rectification work done in certain areas to whomever may have a keen eye for it.

Put it this way. Last time I did this the MOT tester who failed it, not advisory, thought I'd changed the pipe for new.
There was nothing wrong with it but for minor surface rust.
Everyone has opinions. Just cos they are an MOT tester doesn't mean they are right.

I'm quite happy to let the tester see what I've done, proves it's not an attempted bodge in my view, he's also likely to scrape at paint to see what it's hidding which is why I use black waxoyl, this "heals" if sraped. It also holds the every day dust and stuff and soon blends into the underside if that is a concern.
You can also spray every other accessible pipe under the car giving an easy level of further protection with little effort and cost. ;)

Tester is not allowed to remove parts or damage the car in any way.

Then you live in a dream world, no he can't removce parts, but he can prod and poke all he likes, if all is well he will do no damage, as in the inferrrence of your post. If nothing is wrong his prods and pokes will do no damage, but if something is wrong his "prod" will go through the cill, or his scraper as in this post will reveal rot or COVERED UP faults. He has a right to check this like it or not.
