PLEASE HELP, Car Stolen

Hi all,
My car has been stolen this afternoon and I am in a HUGE panic. I have just checked my insurance papers and 3pts I received last year on my licence for a speed camera offence haven't been put on my policy.
I have informed the police that it has been stolen but am yet to notify the insurers because of this trouble.
The policy itself runs until mid August and I am now fretting that the insurance won't pay out on my claim should it be found wrote off or burnt out.
Please help as I don't know what to do.
Thanks in advance

Don't fret - just tell them. The worst that will happen is that you owe them some premium.
  • Yh I was told that, but have also heard off someone that if I ring up to report my car stolen and then tell them about the points, it will invalidate my policy. Therefore meaning I'm not insured even if my car has been stolen.

Who was the "someone"? Just a scaremonger.

If the points were for (eg) drink driving, then it's possible the insurer would never have taken you in the first place. Yours are for speeding, and insurers would have a very small group to sell to if they never covered anyone with 3 points for speeding!

I take it you thought not telling your insurance company was a money saving idea ?

Personally I'd do nothing for now.

You didn't write it off due to your driving, if you'd have had 9 points it wouldn't make it more or less likely to be stolen.

Had you been driving and claiming it would be a different matter. In this situation, I doubt very much they will even look at/ask for your licence.

It would be very unusual for an Insurer not to ask to see a copy of the driving licence and paper counterfoil for a theft claim

you wont gain anything by not telling them

you say you are worried they wont pay out because of the points, but equally if you dont tell them they wont be paying out

at least if you tell them you have a chance

Were the points acquired before or after your latest renewal?

Sorry, but I have no advice to offer you OP.

I suspect, you didn't FORGET as it were about your 3 points when renewing your cover but merely tried to go that little further money saving ideal.

I wouldn't ring them and if they ask for full details about points etc, lie about it as you'll dig yourself a mighty big hole when the time comes and they do check the details themselves.

This could be considered Fraud by the way...!
