Everything is planned for our may 2011 wedding apart from entertainment and flowers (which i posted about yesterday!).
A friend of ours is a stand up comedian so he's going to do a short set which i'm really pleased about as its something different and will be personal to us!
But i'm stuck for music! Our venue offers a dj from 7pm-12am for £180 which i think we'll go for but i want something else! A singer or duet etc who'll do an hour or so of live music. Anyone have a recommendation? We are in the north west and are looking to spend no more than £400-£500 on this, less if at all possible!
Oh and we like soul/swing music but we're open to any suggestions really!
Thank you!!!

for main ceremony we are having a string quartet. we are having a dj that the hotel provides and a fire eater recommended by 4annabella for the evening reception. Linky if you fancy something different other than a singer... costing us £200 for 1 hours performance and £20 travel x we also have a chocolate fountain (not entertainment i know) but will keep the kids entertained lol

We're having a disco, an Elvis impersonator, a burlesque stripper and a punk band. I'll be playing 40s and 50s crooners during the daytime reception on one of those I-pod docking thingys. I'm also toying with the idea of hiring a couple of 1940s style cinema usherettes to hand out the wedding favours - I saw them on a site called flamingfun . com, whilst searching for a Marilyn Monroe look a like!
I'm very excited about my Elvis, but he's not cheap - 950 pounds (sorry - US keyboard - no pound sign!) for two 45min sets, but he's AMAZING - he sounds and looks just like the real thing and he'll hang around so that guests can have their pics taken with him after.
The Burlesque dancer is fab too - she's very like Dita von Teese, with brilliant costumes. She's costing 200 pounds for two 5min routines!!! - I do think its a bit steep, but she makes all the other dancers I looked at look like amateurs.
The punk band is a band my son used to be in - they broke up last year and all moved on to other things (a jazz band, in the case of my son...jazz...shudder...), but I've persuaded them to reform for "one night only" and play a 30 min set of my favourite of their songs, plus a cover of one of my brother's songs from the late 70s - he knows nothing about this - so should be fun to see his reaction when he hears his own song being played!
My son is also going to accompany my friend on acoustic guitar, during the ceremony. She'll be singing a favourite song of mine, while we sign the register.

We're having a live band for music throughout the day - acoustic for ceremony, drinks reception and during meal, and then proper band sets for the eveing. Plus a fire performer from here to kick off the evening party, and they will do an hour of close up performing, magic, contact juggling etc.:j Debt Free 27.07.2011!! :j0

We're considering an xbox 360 set up wth the rock band game and equipment so guests can play as bands. Not sure if we'll get a venue to do it or not... Getting married 18/06/11 :beer:0
