Gym membership

Hi all

I am hoping I am glean some knowledge from the expert knowledge on this board.

I took out gym membership in January and then shortly afterwards found out I am expecting - didn't expect it to happen to quickly for various reasons.

As soon as I found out I contacted my gym to find out where I stood with my 12 month contract (I know - my fault!) and was offered one of three things:
- a pregnancy freeze
- someone else to take over my membership
- to pay 6 months of my contract up front and cancel the contract

I chose option 2, but my 'friend' has now mucked me around for 6 months and I have now paid to be a member of a gym for six months, which I don't attend (again, I have various reasons for not exercising during my pregnancy).

I have finally given up on my friend and asked the gym if I could take option 3, which I can't as despite having paid half the money, I did not pay it up front. So I have no option other than to freeze my membership - which I have done and cancelled my DD.

BUT I was just wondering if anyone had any advice as to whether there is anything else I can do. I would rather not rejoin the gym as with a baby on the way I just don't feel I'll have the time.

I realise I have brought this on myself so please hold back the comments telling me that, but if you can offer any advice, I would be hugely grateful!

Many thanks.

I don't think you've 'brought this on yourself' OP. You've hardly been a fool! You got pregnant unexpectedly, you don't want to use the gym whilst pregnant, you've made efforts to do the right thing and to try to save yourself a bit of money. Nowt wrong with any of that.

I know you say you don't expect you'll use the gym much once your baby's born (and you're probably right!). But how long can the pregnancy freeze last? Not sure whether you've got any other options tbh...

It is possible to excercise during pregnancy, just look at Paula Radcliffe. I've seen women at my gym doing step aerobics and body pump almost right up til they're ready to pop.

Did you even read the OP?

The various reasons were not explained though. Presumably, if they had been medically based, she would have been able to get out of the contract.

Perhaps the OP would come back and tell us.

"Just look at Paula Radcliffe", are you kidding me? I won't even go into how ridiculous that comment is.

The various reasons are various reasons, which I don't want to or don't feel it is necessary to explain for the purposes of making this enquiry.

I asked for advice on a specific area - not your opinion on exercising while pregnant, which is uncalled for and unwelcome.

And for your information - medical reasons are not reason to get out of a contract of this type.

Thanks durham_girl - appreciate your post. It's a shame other people out there can't just read the facts.

    Looks like you're stuck then.
