Suitcases for NZ

Hi

No point in putting summer stuff away- may aswell put it into suitcase for our trip!

But we need some new suitcases- we are travelling direct and will not be travelling much-stopping with family.

Was thinking about Samsonite but price putting me off.

Are there any end of season sales about?

Was thinking of 2 large cases for a family of 4- we will be able to wash clothes etc.

What cases do you have?

Soft or hard sided, trolly or normal?

I would really recommend having a good set of luggage - it will last you longer than a cheapie set and should have guarantees attached to it. The thing with luggage is you don't need to buy it for every trip so it will last you a while.

I personally like soft sided luggage with an expanding option - which is good for when you buy stuff on your holiday!! I find hard sided luggage too restricting.

Also, make sure it's got a good set of wheels on it (similar to the ones you'd see on inline skates) as those little stick out wheels can get knocked off. Good wheels mean you can drag your bag down a set of steps which is a heck of a lot easier than carrying it!

I've got Antler luggage http://www.antler.co.uk/index2.html and have had no problems with it. I would say it's in the same price range as Samsonite though.

One thing to keep in mind, you could try going to one of the outlet centres to look at luggage... I know there's luggage shops at Freeport and Bicester and I'm pretty sure they're Samsonite outlets... Maybe you can luck out there?

We are looking for some bags as well.We are going on a huge family holiday to attend a wedding but looking for some cheap bags as we dont intend to bring them back.

My mother has gathered lots of junks for her brothers and sisters over the last couple of years.She buys lots of bargains and ends up saving them because she never uses them.

Any cheap luggage bags would be great.

I have one piece of very good luggage, Victorinox which is the soft material, expanding on wheel option and I saw it as an investment. It comes with a lifetime guarantee as does stuff made by Eaglecreek etc, so if anything went wrong you get a replacement. Are you intending to travel much in the future ? Could you justify the cost ?

An alternative is to get cheap luggage from Tesco or somewhere and then either get luggage straps or duck tape and strap you suitcase up before you check in (or depending where you are flying from, get it cling film wrapped at the airport)

For the highly unlikely event it burst at the zip, the lugagge strap / tape would keep the contents inside.

The other way to do this would to buy a rucksack liner and put all your stuff in that before into the suitcase (just for flying, I don't mean every day) so again, if your zips broke etc, the stuff would remain inside.

I even think that the Tesco stuff is more than good enough quality to do a trip to NZ and back and would certainly be your cheapest option.

Thanks for that- we are hoping to fly out to Nz every other year- so seeing it as an investment- lifetime guarantee sounds good.

Don`t want something too big or heavy I`m only 5ft and although hubbie is coming on this trip- next time it will just be me and 2 small boys.

Will have to see how far the budget will go- might only be able to buy 1 for this trip.
