Boiler building compliance certificate

Options
I rather stupidly did not realise that I needed a building compliance certificate when I had my new boiler installed in 2007. I'm a little confused as to whether I should ask the engineer that fitted it to now contact Gas Safe to re-register the boiler, do I need to contact CORGI to request the certificate or do I contact the building control division of my council?

All suggestions greatly received.

It should not have been up to you to find this out.

Your installer should have provided you with this certificate automatically.

You won't get one now, so the best you can get will be to have an engineer round to do a safety inspection on the boiler and supply a safety certificate.

I have been in touch with Gas Safe who advised me that it is a joint responsibility to request/receive the certificate. CORGI on the other hand advise "it is a responsibility of the homeowner to ensure that installation work is notified".

It appears that as long as the installer notified CORGI of the installation I can pay for a duplicate certificate to be sent. I just need to find out from CORGI if they were notified and if not need to contact my local Building Control office.

I'm still fuming with myself and the installer but hopefully can now get this straightened out.

CORGI have informed me that they were not informed of the installation. Has anyone else been in this situation? Can I ask the same installer to inspect his work and supply the certificate?

    Hi Chilly77,

My wife and I were recently in the unfortuante position you are - ours was made more stressful because it got to the stage where not having the gas safe certificate was going to make the sale of our then house fall through.

We went via the route of contacting the guy that installed it to which we found out because he didn't inform corgi etc that nothing could be done, he could only offer us a landlord gas safety certificate which we had done, although for no point, our buyers solicitors refused to accept that so in the end we contacted our local council building control department and found out the installation work would need regularising at a cost of £130 (ish). After filling out the form they came looked, asked a few questions and said it was all okay, then we got the certificate within the week and the sale went through fine :)

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Danbenno,

That's a great help, thank you.

At least I now know of the possible costs involved.

    Thanks again
