My mate and his girlfriend bought a 2-bed mid terrace between South Ruislip and Ruislip Gardens in 2007/8 for 250K. I've been round there many times and it seems like a nice area, just typical suberbia really.

  • Ruislip Gardens and South Ruislip aren't too bad, Eastcote is better.

South ruislip has gone down recently, lots of kids hanging around and causing trouble, a couple of stabbings as well. Ruislip itself and especially north ruislip, around Bury street area are very nice indeed, as is Northwood, Northwood hills isn't as nice as it used to be though. hth x

I used to own a house in Northolt, the bit of Northolt that is north of the A40, and bordered by Whitton Avenue West, Wood End Lane, Mandeville Road, Carr Road, Oldfield Lane North. Northolt isn't especially glamourous, but I found that the area I was in was safe and quiet, mostly terraced houses and some semis, mostly privately owned and well looked after. I liked it as it was walking distance to Northolt tube (Central Line) and discovered that lots of tube trains were kept there at night so often you'd get onto an empty one in the morning. It's one stop down to Greenford which has a train line to Ealing Broadway and on to Paddington, and which is also the starting point of the journey so again empty seats (I do so love my comfort!). There is a bus direct to Heathrow which goes down Mandeville Road, and of course the A40 gets you onto the M40 and M25. Overall it was v.handy for travel into town and out into the wilderness beyond London. I did love my house though, and the big garden and great neighbours so I am a bit biased - leaving it was a big mistake. The only drawback really was that supermarkets were a car drive away - not an issue for me, but it would be an issue for anyone who doesn't have a car. There are some shops at Oldfields Circus for your daily essentials though.
