things to do around Bideford, Devon

Hi
WE are going to Bideford for a fews soon and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on things to do that suit a family of 6 (childrens ages vary from 5 - 12) that are on a budget!! I have plenty of Tesco vouchers that can be used.

Thanks any advice gratefully recieved

There is good access point with a car park to the west of the town at the Puffing Billy pub. The walks from here are very peaceful and well surfaced. Ideal for bikes, wheelchairs and pushchairs. Bikes can be hired from Torridge Cycle Hire, Station Yard, Tel: 01805 622633 The Puffing Billy sells food all day and has a beer garden 01805 623050

    Dartington Visitor Centre
Nearly all free for those under 16 and if you want to spend money, the children can make a glass mold of their hands or feet, a perfect pressie for granny!

Go down the coast into Cornwall and visit Boscastle where they had the floods a few years ago. Or Port Isaac which is where they film Doc Martin.
Clovelly (but I can't remember the cost) with the huge hill down to the waters edge.

Pick up a local paper - North Devon Journal - quite often they have tickets/vouchers in at this time of year - last week's local paper here had a 'Free child with two full price adult tickets' voucher to The Big Sheep - Bideford, along with free sub from Subway (buy another one & drink) and a free child entry for Atlantis Avdenture Park, also Bideford. Of these, the Big Sheep is the only one I've visited, and ages ago, but it was fine then with good indoor play area. 'The Milky Way' is popular with young teens aroud here. Other than that, there great beaches and coast walks to do.

If you don't have a car, check and see if there's any deals to be done on bus journeys - Stagecoach used to do an 'Explorer' ticket - unlimited adult travel for a day for £6.30 - though perhaps more suited for a couple of adults touring an area rather than a family with kids, as it wouldn't perhaps be their idea of a treat, trotting round all the back lanes of Devon for a day, rounded off with a cream tea or a pint in a country pub!

Thanks for the replies, we do have a car and dont mind travelling too far. How far is port Issac from bideford? I love Doc Martin.
I have heard about the big sheep and see they except clubcard vouchers so think i will exchange some for that. Hopefully the weather will be good so we can get on the beach but you cant always rely on it.
    Thanks again
Ps any good family places to eat? we are stayin in a cottage but would like to eat out a bit too.

I'd highly recommend The Big Sheep for a full day out. We went there last year and our children (then aged 5 and 3) loved it. But there's plenty there for slightly older ones, too.

For this and other attractions in the area, see http://www.ukattraction.com/west-country/bideford.html

Certainly no more than an hours drive to Port Isaac

When we went there, we had a nice meal in The Hoops Inn which was between Bideford and where we were staying. It's on the A39 so easy enough to find (car park through the archway).
