quick help needed with TV

I have a Baird LCD TV which I got about three months ago. It has been fine until about half an hour ago when the picture sort of "popped" and then went black, but the sound remained fine. I checked to see if it was the cable but it is definitely the TV. After a couple of minutes I noticed a strong electrical burning smell so switched off and unplugged. I am about to go up to bed but am a bit worried about the TV smouldering inside as the smell is stronger now if anything and I don't want the house to go on fire when we are asleep! Does anyone know if it will be okay now that I have unplugged it? I am a bit worried too because I bought the TV from Cash Generator - it was brand new in the box, but was officially second hand IYKWIM. Will I still be able to get my money back?
