Purchasing laptop

I am interested in buying a laptop through installments. Any advice about where I can get one would be much appreciated. I don't really want to take out a loan if possible. My budget is about £50.00 per week.

Many thanks

might be better to save up for 7 weeks....then pay for one with cash...dell online or keep checking on here or on Hot UK Deals for laptop bargains...

If you have that sort of money I would save up. i brought my laptop last week from tesco, for £359, saving £90 plus 2213 clubcard points I ordered it online on sun and it came on monday. I would just save up and save on having to pay the interest too :)
  • Ask your university IT department whether they sell refurb laptops no longer used in some university departments.

Yes - with that kind of budget, you'd get a much worse deal buying on finance. Good options would be either:
    - Save £50/week. You could buy something fairly decent within a couple of months or (assuming term starts early September) have enough saved up to buy a netbook or basic laptop before term starts.
    - Use an overdraft to fund the purchase (if you're a student, hopefully you get an interest free one) and then - this is the important bit - make sure you're disciplined enough to pay it off at £50 or more/week.

I would definitely wait and save! It's not worth buying a laptop on a finance deal. You can buy a very decent one for £400 nowadays, which is 8 weeks for you. Most uni's have very good IT facilities and you'll manage with using the computer rooms initially.

If you are absolutely desparate for one, a friend of mine just bought an IBM X31 on e-bay for excellent value - they're good solid machines that last but aren't too chunky.

Definitely wait, especially if your in a position to save £50 a week. Won't take you long at all to put by the money for it, and saves getting loans that aren't really necessary
