First Time Buyer - what to expect - help

Options
Hi there,

I'm a first time buyer, i'm just wanting advice on what to expect and how long things take. I've already started getting the mortgage in place, i've seen someone there and giving all documents and apparently a surveryor went round to the property on wednesday to do the (free) valuation that was offered from the mortgage people. I've instructed a solicitor, spoke to him yesterday and he hadn't heard from the sellers solicitors so i had to give him the EA number again and now he's got the sellers solicitors details and say he's going to start asking for the contract to be drawn up.

It's just i've not really been given any advice on what to expect etc, i wanted to talk with the lady who's been dealing with our mortgage but she (with out telling me) was on holiday last week and is this week - so not much help there.

JUst how long do these sort of things take and whats the steps that it all has to go through before we get the house??

Many thanks,

Vicky x

We have finally found out today that we now have our mortgage, this took 4 1/2 weeks. Offer already made on property which was accepted and taken off the market. Sorting out a building surveyor now as we were waiting to make sure we got the mortgage first.
  • well i wasn't expecting it because 2 month before we offered, the house was basically sold to someone else (literally just signing of contract to be done) but they pulled out as the couple split and at this point it sold for £120k. so we thought we'd be fine with it going down to £113k.

Well that teachs me for thinking too lightly :)

Who told you that they pulled out because they split? Is it not possible that they in fact pulled out because of the work that came up on the survey?
