Where I live, the council automatically uncap the gas supply when a property becomes empty. Maybe they do that where you are too?

If there is a gas supply and this is the case, you will need to call the supplier to get them to reset the gas meter (if it is prepayment) and then contact the council to get them to come out and uncap the gas supply. This is rather a bind - I know as I had to arrange this at beginning of this year!

Right, i havent' been abled to get in touch with the guy in charge of gas/electricity/water at the council yet. But i phoned british gas up and after almost 20 mins, the support guy said that it shows on his computer that there is a prepayment meter in my flat because of the code said so. He even gave me the MPRN after.

Funny thing is i phoned Energy Watch office 2 days ago to find out about my supplier and they said currently, there is no gas suppliers at my address!!!

At this point, i was too frustrating with all this madness that I knocked on my neighbour's door and asked him about gas. He said hes with EDF and shown me his gas meter...

Now, i torn down the place, opened every cupboard door etc (again!) and I see no gas meter whatsoever so im sure that i dont have a gas meter!

Phone up my old friend and i told her about my grief so she started asking me questions and i told her about this immersion heater so she said it used electricity to heat water up which i gathered last few posts up in this thread. What interesting is that she mentioned radiators which i described to her mine have a white wire coming out of a socket with on and off button instead of the white radiators at her house which used gas. Then she told me that they are electric heater...I was just too angry at this point.

She also asked me about a white socket near the sink which supposed to be kitchen area and she said yup, it's for electrical cooker!

Im just speechless. So now what i think could be the problem is that the booklet they gave me which contains instructions of how to get my electricity and gas back on has some mistakes in it. It mentioned "gas" and "boiler"...maybe because its old or it just doesn't apply to my type of accommodations.

I hope the guy in charge of utilities can shed some lights up tomorrow.

Smashing. You are a step forward. It looks like your bed-sit is all-electric. There is no gas and you do not have a gas-meter. That's good news in one way - one less bill to pay.

Your landlord is really amiss in giving you a generic list of instructions. But that is life.

Try to work out how to switch on these electric thingies. Your old friend will help out. I think that she has this sort of trouble before. It is annoying, is it not?

Never mind, you are getting there.

the problem is a lot of paperwork is standard rather than geared purely to all electric properties and many just assume there is gas at a property that aside I am glad you have got it sorted out.
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.

Ok, i sorted that out so the bed-sit flat has only electricity and no gas.

What bugging me now is that the Tuesday i turned up at flat the electric meter read debt: 21.89, next day i turned up it read 22.17 so i was like what the heck!, looked up the main switch board there are 2 main switches, one was on and other was off so i turned the on switch to off to make sure that there is no electricity being used. Today i turn up, it read debt: 22.44!

Is it normal??? I got a new key but im afraid to put it in and reset the debts or reading lol. Not until i find out why this is happening.

And the immersion heater is safe right?! I dont need to get anyone in to test it before I can use it?

To help you a touch further:

The big white thing has a door - open this and store your milk here.

Milk is also white and usually in a plastic bottle. Buy it from a milk-man or a corner shop.

the increase in the debt wil be due to standing charge, if you are the new tenant then BG should have set you up your own account and the previous tenant is responsible for the debt, if the account was in your landlords name then they will be responsible.Speak to your supplier about this
    mustn't grumble
