Southern Electric Help!

Basics:
Moved into house 28th January this year.
Our letting agent notified all our utility companies we were moving in.
Advised southern electric supplied our gas

By March had recieved confirmation they supplied our electricity and about billing etc.. Nothing about our gas?

Rang them, set up a direct debit for gas.

No money was ever taken.

Rang them up again and asked, they said they didn't supply our gas.
We said they did, the national grid (or similar..) said they did.

Agreed to set up a new account and backpay..

Told our meter doesn't exsist. Checked and double checked. It's definately there.

Everytime I ring them I get the same thing. Or they agree to contact us by letter to arrange a new account and nothing appears. Ring them back and start all over again.

My OH spoke to them a month ago (June) and they said again, no account, no money owed to them.

Now we are definately recieving gas from somewhere. Everybody else agrees it's Southern Electric apart from them. I've asked them to bill me several times and they won't? Is there any way of saying

"Bill me in x amount of days or I'm not going to be paying for the last 6 months of gas"

So confused as to what to do, worried we're going to be hit with a huge bill several months/years down the line.

Help!

Write to them, recorded delivery - you may need proof later that you contacted them.

Keep an eye on your meter and ensure you have enough money to pay for what you have consumed.

Follow this advice and they will only be able to back-bill you for a year (assuming you've got the correct supplier which you say you have)

We've saved the money for now, but as I say, don't wanna keep the money in a pot forever if they're never going to bill us.

So send a letter recorded delivery, what information shall I include? Meter number and meter reading when we moved in? & current meter reading? Then ask for a bill?
