Do you get your certificate on the day?

That is different - you don't have to do anything after the day in England. You and your witnesses do sign the register but there's someone there from the registrars (assistant to the person doing the ceremony) who writes up your certificate at the same time and gives it to you. But there are slight variations between registry offices so call if you want to know exactly what will happen.

There is no assistant to the Person doing the ceremony, The other Person is also a Registrar who is actually doing the legal side of your Marriage, without which you wouldn't be married.

We got ours on the day, before we left...the registrar handed it to me and said "traditionally, the marriage certificate is the property of the bride-start as you mean to go on and all that. The groom is bound to lose it":rotfl:My MOH took it out of my hands whilst my brother did some signing photo's and she's lost it. Got married in March and still havent seen my certificate :o Really must order a new one.
  • Not sure if it's different if you're having a Church ceremony but we just picked our certificate up the Sunday after the wedding when we went to Mass.

Thanks for starting this thread - has prompted me to get in touch with our registrar... We go on honeymoon the morning after our wedding and need to take a certificate with us in order to get the honeymoon extras... so will be looking to get two copies same day!

When we got married there was an assistant to the registrar who filled out the form before the registrar signed it. She was introduced as an assistant, and the name on her desk has assistant there too.

We also got our cert the same day, Oh's mum works for a solicitors so we will get copies there as we weren't offered them by the registry office
    Bump due 22nd September
