Do you get your certificate on the day?

Might be a very daft question but I forgot to ask when we did our notice. Was just wondering because if we do then I will take a holder with me to keep it in good condition.
Also can you get more than one copy on the day?

Yes you get your certificate usually in an envelope, I gave mine to my Mam to keep. You only get one copy as far as I know?

It depends on the register office. Our usual practice is to give one copy on the day.

If you require extra copies then order them on the day, they will be £3.50 each, after the day they go up to £7 and when in the archive (usually after a few months) they will be £9. If you order extra copies then we usually post the extras out later that day.

I think the majority of offices give you one copy on the day rather than post it out, and tehy usually come in an envelope or cardboard wallet.

my information pack which i have to fill in and send back with our vow choices, music and readings - has a section about the certificate. It says we get one copy on the the day. If we require anymore to say on the forms however many at x amount each then i think they either prepare these on the day along with the first 'free' copy or they send them out at a later date.
I would contact the registrars office who will be performing the ceremony to find out for sure.
I would definitely take a holder with me to stop it getting creased and I will be putting someone like my mum in charge of it's safekeeping for the day.

We were given our official certificate on the day (the one you need to change your name) - they folded this and put it in an envelope. They also gave us a commemmorative A4 certificate which looks nice but has no legal standing. They put both of these into an A4 envelope for us. We just gave them to MIL who went and put them in her car straight after the ceremony.

I didn't order extras - it was never mentioned by the registrar or on our forms. Wish I had asked though as now have to send the original off to the passport office and DVLA eep!

Depends where you are. Not sure if it's different in England & wales. Here in Scotland, you sign the register on the day with the two witnesses. This then has to be returned to the registry office within 3 days (most get it back within 2). Details are then double checked and if you wait, you can have it in 5mins or so. Although you or the groom need to pick up the extract before the wedding, anyone can return it after the ceremony. My new m-i-l returned ours as we were already away on honeymoon.

Any questions, do phone/contact your registry office - this is the important bit!! Get this wrong and there may not be any legal wedding!!!:rotfl:

That is different - you don't have to do anything after the day in England. You and your witnesses do sign the register but there's someone there from the registrars (assistant to the person doing the ceremony) who writes up your certificate at the same time and gives it to you. But there are slight variations between registry offices so call if you want to know exactly what will happen.

If you get married in a register office you usually get one on the day.
If however you get married outwith a register office by a minister then you have to return it within three days. If a registrar marries you then they will return it to the office for completion.

Which country is this in? The registrar came to our venue (we didn't get married at the register office) and we got ours on the day.

Scotland - It's still possible to collect it the same day - just depends on how busy they are. You don't actually get the one that was signed - thats the one they use for the achives. The one that you get is all typed out.
