Car buying advice...

Presumably this is a national thing then? (please excuse my ignorance, my knowledge on cars is pretty limited to forward, backwards and round corners movement)...I will have to dig out the V5, but I presume even if the car was originally bought from a VW dealer 200 miles away, my local VW official dealer should be able to tell me the history (unless this has been done privately, which I agree is unlikely)...

    Thanks

Hi there, I've done this myself too. Went into a main dealer who had originally sold my car and asked for a print out of work done including servicing and warranty work. I had got a replacement logbook when I bought the car (private sale) so needed about 3 years of missing service details. Admittedly, I was servicing the car with them at the time but it shouldn't be a problem.

Worst case, they'll ask for a fee....

Guess I am the one to agree with Harvey. Shouting at someone you want help from isn't the way to go about things.

I don't want their help, I want them to give me what should have been provided with the vehicle...not asking them for anything which should not have already been provided...

I have been extremely patient with them so far, but sometimes raising your voice is the only way to be heard - would you be happy if someone lied to you for two months after you'd just spent more than a couple of grand in their store?

I'm not stupid enough to leave without seeing the service history.

Infact if you came to me shouting the odds, I'd post a service book to you. For the wrong car. And possibly without a postage stamp to really annoy you.
And if you genuinely trade like that someone might have the last laugh on you :money:

i don't get surely the car was falsly advertised...isn't that the point he's makeing??? i'd contact tradeing standards and ask them for some advice on the matter...if i took my car into a dealership and got a p/x price with full service history then i'm pretty sure they'd want it before handing over the new car?and why should the new buyer do all the running round to sort the problem..i'd also check if the dealers you bought the car from are members of a trade body..then if you get no joy make a complaint to them to.......ck

For an example, let's say I am a TV salesman and I sell you a TV, but when you get it home the number 3 button is missing, so you can't watch Coronation Street or The Ferret (whatever it is that stroppy car salesmen watch these days...)...would you come and ask me for a replacement remote? If I said go away and sort it yourself would you be 100% satisfied?

I'd make sure that I was getting what was being sold to me. ie - if the number 3 button was missing then I'd not continue with the sale until it was present and fit for the purpose it was intended for, under the SOGA...

The same process that should be applied when buying a car advertised with full service history.

Also, just to point out that a 58 plate car, registered say September 2008 may not have actually had a service anyway if it was on something like 2yr/20k intervals.
