Garmin Sat Nav Updates

Hi There,

I bought a Garmin Sat Nav over three years ago, an 'entry level' Nuvi 200. Even though it cost me £150 back then (and nowadays they retail for less than half that price - around £69.99) the cost of the map updates has remained high - Garmin now charge £49.99. Given that a few stores around me are having sales etc at the moment, selling them for around the same as it does for an update - I might as well buy a brand new one!

Of course, it may be all be a cunning plan by Garmin to get us all to buy new product, but I can't help thinking they may have missed a trick here. I'd happily pay £10-20 for an 'official' update from them, but £49.99 is enough to make me go and try another brand.

Does anyone know of a universal one size fits all type of map update programme/or even a free one of some sort that I could download? It's only the UK that I need coverage for.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I have a Garmin Nuvi 200 and this was one of my questions in one of the sat nav threads. I have just tried searching for the thread but as yet cannot find it.
Anyway my complaint was that when you done a map update search on the Garmin site, they just gave you the complete Europe maps, this to me is not a update when you have just UK and Ireland maps.
One kind poster gave this link -

It was a while ago I posted and only last week I downloaded the new UK and Ireland maps at £36.99
If you download you will have to make space on your nuvi 200 memory by deleting the unwanted language voices and help pages.

  • Thankyou for your replies, much appreciated!

Even for the sake of paying £39.99, I might as well buy a brand new one for a few quid extra and keep the old one in reserve (or even give it away). It's just the principle of it really.

    Easy solution, Dont update it?

Roads not changed that much, Some postcodes have but a quick check online
    soon sorts that issue out.
