PS3 - Surround Sound

Options
I have a PS3 and a surround sound DVD player which is currently also attached to my Sky+ box.

Anyway, my question is what cable do I need to get the PS3 to play through the surround sound system? Do I attach it directly from the PS3 to the DVD player?

This is the dvd player..

You won't be able to get the digital 5.1 from the PS3 to play back through your home cinema system as the only audio input you have available is 2 channel analogue stereo.

    Yes, according to this page:

a PS3 only outputs 5.1 surround sound via its optical and HDMI outputs, you could use an ordinary analogue stereo cable to pipe ordinary 2 channel stereo sound out to that system

    Thanks for the info..

So I would ideally need a 5.1 system with HDMI / Optical inputs?

Would help if you state what this surround system is. See the problem is that the PS3 should connect to an amp by HMDI or optical (toslink). If you're DVD player & surround system is integrated, it probably doesn't have inputs

Yep, just to elaborate on KillerWatt's post:
The specs on your system say that is doesn't have any Optical or HDMI ports, thus it won't be able to output PS3 sound in 5.1 Digital Surround.
However, 2 Channel stereo is better then nothing.

    Just a tip,
Turn on Dual Audio Output in the PS3's audio settings , that will allow the PS3 to output sound to the TV via HDMI and the sound system at the same time.

You would need to use the composite cable that comes with the PS3 to connect to the sound system.

But you say; you have a SKY+ box already connected? Presumably that means your Phono inputs are already occupied.
    In this case I suggest 2 things;
    1) Buy a new system - which supports HDMI or Toslink inputs
    2) There are Phono Splitters probably available - consider that as a purchase (although the sound will probably be even less quality)

Sorry for the masses of writing :)
