Tile Paint

I am planning to spruce up our kitchen and have been thinking of painting the tiles rather than going to the expense of re tiling. There is nothing wrong with the tiles at all but I fancy a change of colour. Has anyone any advice to offer on whether this is a good idea please? I dont want the tiles to look amateurish and obviously "painted".

tried it a couple of times, never successfully!! first time it was a bit of a rush job and the grout looked terrible, so next time i was all over the prep, and it still didn't look great, the best thing if you've got the time would be to scrape out the grout, then paint, then re-grout...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Thanks for replying. All that scraping out of grout sounds like a bit of a nightmare. I might just leave the tiles as they are.0 -
I painted my sister's bathroom tiles with tile paint from Focus and it turned out really well.
Just make sure you clean the old tiles down really well before applying the paint.
To finish off I used a grouting pen for the grout, it's easy give it a go I'm sure you it will be a success.
Good Luck!0 -

Thanks. I might change my mind again. I was actually thinking of painting each individual tile and leaving the grouting which is clean and in good condition. I know it would take forever.........on the other hand perhaps its not such a good idea. :sad:0 -

Yes you could do that, I suppose it depends how long you have to spend on doing it.
I did my sisters 3 years ago and it looks like it did when first done, anyone would think it was done yesterday.
Go for it!:):):)0 -
I painted mine five years ago and they are looking a bit tired now buthave done well. splashes and stains seem to wash off as if it is a real tile. The only suggestion I would make is use the undercoat as suggested and also use a roller as this will stop you getting brush marks and even if there is a bit of texture it will look like the glaze and not a badly painted tile. i used white on my kitchen so painted over the grout which made the whole area waterproof and much easier to keep clean but if you use a different colour you may have to be a bit more fussy about the grout element. What doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger.0

I think I might try it on a few tiles where it wont show ( behind the microwave) just to see how it turns out. Thank you all.0

I will second what has been said here...a small roller is a must...0 -
Yep ,use a good quality roller
Would suggest a dark color rather than a lighter one ,have done a few over the years and the darker color always seems to cover better and look better when doneHave a nice day0
