Birdseye Vegetable Fingers

Hi everyone,

A few months ago my girlfriend grilled some Birdseye vegetable fingers as part of her evening meal and when she cut open one of them found a blue piece of what can only be described as masking tape type material - about 2/3 inches long - in the middle of one of them!

It obviously put her off eating them and did do for a long while afterwards. As she has a sensitive stomach it was one of her main foods she could eat without any problems so was obviously very annoyed!

She ended up taking photos and contacting Birdseye, who in turn sent out a bag to return the evidence in so they could investigate, which ended up taking around 3 weeks from the date of the incident to arrive and because of this we ended up having the soggy item hanging around in the kitchen!

It was posted back to them (with certificate of posting) I would say around the middle of March from memory and since then we haven't heard a peep!

Any advice on what to do - she still has photographic evidence and the certificate of postage (somewhere).

Thanks.
Gareth.

Could it have been a blue plaster?

That was exactly my first thought but it definitely wasn't.

I will get an update from them - I was wondering whether it would be worth going to the Food Standards Agency or should I wait to see what Birdseye have to say first?

I think it is very ignorant of such a high profile company to not even respond with their 'investigations' but I suppose one customer to them is nothing.

She could always learn how to cook her own vegetable fingers?

You seriously left the soggy item hanging round the kitchen for weeks? Wow.

Well she could but that's beside the point. It's like with anything you could always learn to cook your own instead of buying it ready prepared or eating out.

Yes we had no other choice as we were told they were sending a bag to put the 'evidence' in and as I said it took about 3 weeks to arrive!

Is a vegetable finger just a stick of carrot? Or maybe a bit of pepper for variety.

It's not. You said that she is so sensitive that vegetable fingers are all her sensitive tummy can take; and then asked advice on what to do.

Ergo; the suggestion to cook her own. Then she will know what's in them and everyone's happy.

I was mainly asking for advice on what to do regarding the complaint raised with Birdseye but I understand where you're coming from so thank you :)
