Hi all,

I am due to start uni studying a business degree but at 34 I am a bit worried that I will be the oldest there!!!

I am really excited about going tho, its gonna be hard fitting it in around the kids and hubby but I am determined to suceed

Has anyone any tips for me, what should I take on the first day, when will I get reading lists etc

Any advice will really be appreciated x

im just going into the third year of my degree. the eldest person in our class is 50/60 odd, so i wouldnt feel old at 34!

first day - paper, pens and a smileshould see you in good stead. and a bag for all the leaflets and handouts you inevitably get given

good luck and have fun

You won't be the oldest!!! I am 30 and a pretty young mature student. Most of them are late 30's, early 40's.

Take some paper, pens, a good sized bag to carry all the paperwork you will get. You also may want to take some passport sized photos for your NUS card.

You may get reading lists on the first day, or in the first lecture of each module.

Make sure you make the effort to chat to people, especially the mature students as you will have a lot in common. Just be yourself. If anyone suggests going to the pub for a swift half after registration make the effort to go if you can as it is a great way of getting to know people.
  • I'm 36 and had my first day at uni today.

  • My current landlady is in her mid-30s and is reading the same degree that I read. She has four children and has just passed her 2nd year. She has had to go part-time due to family commitments so don't worry if this is an option you may consider at a later date.
During my degree, there were several mature students in my classes and you'll always find that lecturers with take into consideration that other priorities will arise.

Enjoy yourself, you'll love it!
