I've been really lucky, in that I've had involvement from most people close to us.

My family are overseas, which makes it difficult to involve them. I did manage to go dress shopping with my sister, and my dad turned up to see the one I ultimately ended up going with. His response was 'how am I supposed to dance with you wearing that', which my sister and I had a good giggle about. My mum and dad are sorting the favours I've picked out, and a cousin and an auntie that happen to be visiting me and OH next month are bringing them over.

OH's mum and dad have been good too. They're helping us greatly with the logistics of putting my family up, and transporting people to and from airports (everyone seems to be coming on different dates, to different airports!). His mum is great to bounce ideas off, and is very mindful of how much things cost, so tends to go away and have a think about a cheaper alternative!

When it comes down to it though, OH and I are arranging the ceremony and the bulk of the reception. I'm looking at the more decorative things, while he's sorting out music, the band's requirements, and other more 'technical' things.

I love all this planning, and haven't found that aspect too stressful so far!

I am doing all the ideas etc, however the wedding is in my hometown of Philadelphia so my parents are doing all the booking and running around. They are signing the contracts and signing the checks form my American bank acct., we send money to that acct monthly.

I have tried to get H2B mother involved and she has mostly been a PITA. I think there are cultural differences, we have different expectations, she was married a long time ago, I have been looking at wedding stuff much longer then her etc.

I'm doing the majority of mine :) I have given OH a few tasks but he hasn't even thought about them at all! Have done a fair bit myself and I am always bouncing ideas off my step mum and my sisters but I wish my mum would give a bit more of an input. She lives 75 miles away but you would think we were worlds apart and the only thing she has done so far is get my little sister to text me to ask what colour she has to wear as she was sale shopping the other day!!!!! I have asked my sisters if the would like to co-ordinate with the bridal party as I'm not having bridesmaids, only all my nieces as flowergirls - they loved the idea but mum wasn't impressed and thought I was dictating what they are wearing, she would have found out otherwise if she bothered picking up the phone and asking me herself!
Oops, sorry, went off on a little rant there, without realising it until now I've gone into one of my 'well if shes not going to bother getting in touch with me I'm not going to bother her' modes......

I'm doing a lot of it as OH's busy working and I've got nothing to do (10 weeks away from college!), but I have my SIL2B helping me lots and I'm going to get lots of help when I go home next week to see my parents :)

  • Depends on what you consider help?

The wedding is overseas so my parents are doing the bulk of looking at venues. All of us agreed on the date (that took long enough!). They will give us the menus and we will pick from that.

I'm arranging invitations, favors and my dress. OH is doing the music because it's really important and personal to him.

There really isn't that much to organise so I'm at a bit of a loose end really. We have no bridesmaids, groomsmen, no wedding party dress code. We're not having hen nights/stag dos. OH doesn't want to wear a wedding band so I won't get one either unless he changes his mind.

No-one helped me organise ours either! My husband (we married 2 weeks ago) would just say do what you think's best on flowers etc, but he did help choose the Scripture readings. My parents and in-laws contributed money but I didn't ask their opinion on anything other than who they wanted to invite.

I wouldn't really have liked too much "help" cos when you have to do it all by yourself you don't overcomplicate things, which also helps to keep the costs down, so there are positives to it too.

I did all of mine. I lost m,y mum 9 years ago and I won't lie, orgainisng the wedding really brought it home and at times I really had top fight the feelings of resentment towards my friends who had their mums to help with the running around, phone calls - just having ehr around y'know? I only really spoke to my husband about it (married 2 weeks ago) and thankfully he let me cry and gave me lots of hugs.

Having said that, folks did help me out when asked - I had a group of friends help me stationary, one did hair, another played guitar, dad (is this a dad thing) just went "there's the money", opened the invites, helped decide the menu and bought the booze for after the ceremony and meal. People are happy to help and I made the point on the day during the speeches (my husband;s in fact ) so giving special mentions and thank yous!!!

I'm doing most of mine but OH and I had really similar ideas from the outset so that helped. My bridesmaids are fantastic too, one is helping with invites, another with make-up so they are great too. And OH has already sorted the DJ for very cheap :D
