Bluetooth Connection Nokia to PC

I have been trying to connect my Nokia 6300 to a PC running XP.
The PC recognises the phone and the phone recognises the PC and when I try to set up a “new pairing” the phone asks me for a passcode which according to the phone handbook can be up to sixteen characters.
However whichever set of characters I enter as the passcode I get the error message “Pairing Failed”. I have even tried entering “0000”, which seems to be the default for many Nokia security codes, but without success.
I have never done this pairing thing before so can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong?

Are you doing the pairing thing from the phone or the computer? I had this issue as well, I used the phone to pair to the computer and got nowhere. Then I used the computer to pair with the phone, and got as far as you got, and then got stuck. On your bluetooth settings on both the computer and the phone, delete all references to paired devices of the other (ie find the computer name on the phone's paired devices and delete it, and delete the paired phone on your computer). If you then run the pairing from the computer again, you might just get this to work...
(This usually works because the phone's been paired and the key code has been set, but the computer doesn't think that the phone has a code, so tries to set up a new one. The phone says no, one has already been set, and so everything gives up... And the code you specify can be whatever you want, as long as you type the same code in on both the computer and the phone...)
Hope this works, let me know... Good luck!Having fun trying to save money without going over the top and living on budget food all the time...0 -
Great info. I will give it a try this p.m. and let you know how I get on.
Thanks again.0 -
Still can’t get it to work. This is a brand new Samsung netbook and I can’t find any paired devices on it at all. When I search for devices it locates the phone but then asks for the Nokia passkey.
I have not previously used Bluetooth on the Nokia so there are no previously paired items to delete so am trying to establish a new pairing. Both devices recognise each other but the computer asks for the Nokia passkey and the phone asks for a passcode. I type in any old rubbish (as per the Nokia handbook), the phone tries to connect but then errors with “Pairing Failed”.
As you say it seems that a password/passcode has been generated already but I haven’t a clue where to find it.
Thanks for suggestions so far – any other ideas or am I completely misunderstanding your previous advice?0 -
I've never managed to get bluetooth to work under windows, managed it in linux though. Not that that helps you.0

Thanks for the Linux comments but I have enough problems without looking at a new operating system.0

Finally got it to work by pairing from the computer as suggested.
Thanks for all your help.0
