Erm...I've just come back from my holiday there!
We had a 4 star hotel and had a fabulous time.
Swimming off a boat to a remote tiny island with clear seas - the snorkelling is fab. Seeing the loggerhead turtles out at sea, beautiful dusk skies of amazing pinks.
Beaches are gorgeous, people are friendly. And it is not expensive (I came back with half of my spending money!). It is also green...grass and trees and flowers. Roads/paths are dodgy, but not a problem if you're planning to chill out by the pool. The beaches are lovely too and the sea is warm.
Many of the hotels already have a book stash, so no need to weigh your cases down.
This is the first destination that I would return to.
You will have a superb time! Enjoy.
PS. We had great flight times - morning going out and afternoon coming back. Your spending money is plenty - we spent less per week for 1 adult, 1 child but I did keep a spending diary!!Back on the DFW Wagon:

Try not to spend too much when you are there especially if everything seems cheap.I have spent far more on hols when it is cheap than when it is really expensive when I can`t bring myself to pay that much !0

I hope you have a great time - if we don't get away once in a while - what are we working for? Don't feel guilty. You'll feel better able to deal with things once you've had time to chill out and relax for a while.Keep Calm:cool: Smile

We were in Kalamaki - it's fab - the beach is the best on the island and your hotel is so close to it! (I've just checked the island map they give you free at your hotel!
) We were just up the road at the Bitzaro Palace.
There are quite a few shops there too and only about 10 mins walk from your hotel - alot selling the same stuff, so check your prices out as they differ quite widely. Avoid the 2 little shops on your way to the main street as they're expensive, though there is a fresh fruit stall with home made virgin olive oil and honey...good value and utterly gorgeous!
There's also plenty of restaurants on the main street too, all after your business, so look out for the deals.
You will have such a great time and you have enough money to get out and about if you wish.Back on the DFW Wagon:

Zante is a lovely place & there's plenty to suit all tastes. Laganus is the busy night club area. Kalamaki, where we stayed is about 2 miles up the road & is much quieter but still plenty of bars & eateries. Be wary of signing up for all day boat trips around the island. It's too long on a boat with very little shelter from the sun. As we were landing, the pilot warned us of the impending heat wave (July). It was a gorgeous 42 degrees all week. We'll definitely be going back when we're a bit more flush.Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Debt at highest approx £102,000. Debt now (October 2009 - absolutely fork all!!!)

Enjoy, we all need time off to recharge every now and again, and I don't think you should beat yourself up about it. Just think before MSE this would probably have cost twice the price as you'd have booked it ages ago and been prepared to spend a furtune whilst there, so even though your going away you still are saving!

You know I'm so glad I posted this thread today. When we booked it i thought we'd been sold an average holiday because it was so cheap. I thought we were gonna be stuck out in the middle of nowhere. But you guys have put my mind at ease and it looks like we've blagged a bargain.
Ali thanks for the advice re shops etc... How much on average is a meal for 2with a bottle of wine? Coz we're b&b and will need to eat out every night.
I'm soo excited...
Ps.... anyone any ideas on how to shift a stone in 6 days? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Ooh..you're looking at around 10-15 Euros I'd say for meal for 2 with wine, maybe even cheaper as the season slows down. We were half board, so eve meal was part of our deal, but I did look at the menus and prices as we wandered down the main street.
For lunch, we would buy baguettes with ham salad, etc, in for 1.50 Euros.
It's the imported stuff and fresh milk that is expensive - papers are 2.50 Euros!
Take some anti-mozi spray or cream if you're going to be out during the evening - they are pretty viscious and go for those that don't normally get bitten (erm..that's me then!)
Also, with being in a 4 star, you might get free shower gel, shampoo and soap (we did) so less of your own to use!
You know, I had no real idea of what Zante would be like either, but with those beaches and clear seas and the beautiful colours of them being reflected by the white cliffs...you could be in Bali or somewhere, for alot less money and a much shorter flight!Back on the DFW Wagon:
