chilli help
Hi, is it too late to re pot my chilli plant? I think its a cayenne. its currently over a metre high in a tiny pot, i thought putting it in a small pot would restrict its growth but no! it has done so well on my sunny windowsill and has about 40 chillis on it which are now starting to turn red. I did cut the tips off in the hopes it would bush out and it has done a bit but its still getting taller, and now i think its going to fall over or snap as its just way too tall for the pot. I would hate to loose this plant by repotting it. Thanks!

It sounds like it's doing well. Chillies don't need a huge pot, but it sounds like your pot could be too small. I think you could repot it if you disturb the roots as little as possible. Could you get a bigger pot, put a layer of compost in the bottom & have the bag of compost ready....then very gently try to remove the whole rootball (it will probably come out fairly easily if it's compacted). Put the whole thing in the new pot without disturbing the roots, then fill the pot around it with new compost. If it's really tall, I'd stake it too. Water it well and if it looks like it has objected to the repotting while it's fruiting, then give it some dilute seaweed solution such as maxicrop, as that seems to be a good tonic for just about everything. I love growing chillies. This year I'm doing jalopenos. I've been using them on pizzas and in chillies and am now freezing them to use through the winter. I always pick some at the green stage & some when they're red, then I've got both covered for recipes. Good luck with it. You are doing well with your chillis!!
I'm growing Toyko hot and they are about 2ft high, not spindly but not bushy either. Only they haven't produced flowers yet
They are in decent sized pots, I keep them well watered and warm.
what could be the problem or am I being impatient? Is repotting a problem? I did do this when they were about a foot tall, but they still look healthy.£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190 -
I read that repotting can sometimes cause them to go into root shock so im worried about doing it, because i really would cry if I lost this plant! ive never done so well with chillis! But now i have a huge south facing kitchen window and i think thats whats done it! Im also worried it will break when I repot it as its so tall its difficult to move about
