your mechanic is obviously too busy and trying to price himself out of the market.
I think we found out who's "tampered" with it.....
Are you sure all these problem actually existed?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Thank you everyoneI think that i shall take it to a local garage and see what they say - tell them what the problem is.....without saying what my mechanic has said - if they say it is the same problem I shall ask for a quote to fix it - ring my mechanic for his price and see what is what.He fitted a new water pump for me once - £200 - is that expensive? I dont have a clue but knowing will help me decide whether i should be taking my car elsewhere........get really insecure about my car......my mechanic even told me that many garages will say they have done a full service but they havent - you just dont know who to trust......perhaps i will see if i can get it fixed with a guarantee.....Anyway, thanks again.....sorry about the clumps of text.0

Don't worry about your text, may be that your computer can't do lines below, I had one like that
Good luck OP with getting it all sorted and fixed, at a good price0 -
What is an 'inlet manual gasket'??? Perhaps that should be 'inlet manifold gasket' - but how will that fix a coolant leak???"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Just helped a friend do his older Corsa head gasket,
Cost £61 with delivery for the parts, (Gasket set, head bolts, thermostat, fan switch, timing belt) + about £45 to have the head skimmed.0 -
