working but not self-employed, and have to pay NI contributions

Options
Hi,

I am interested in one thing - i am working as employee, have full-time - 40 hrs contract. after i got NI number, i received a letter from NI contributions, with amount of 31 pound i owe them. there was mentioned something about self-employement, i went to bank, and payed that money, after 3 months i received letter again (bill) and its written there that now i owe 62 pound??? what for?? i am not self employed, and every week when i get my payslip, theres deductions for NI about 20 pounds, and income tax something same... so what should i do??? and i never worked as self employed... and i am really not foing to pay tham 62 pounds, for nothing.

can some one help, me, give advice, where should i call, or what should i do??

P.s. sorry for my english, i am in UK only 8 months :/

Thanks in advance.

    .
Go and ask your employers why and and take the letters with you.

If they dont know, go to the Citizens Advice Bureau. CAB
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

You really shouldn't have paid the first amount of £31 if you weren't sure what it is for or believe it to be incorrect. Please telephone or write to the contact in the letter to explain your situation. If your job is and has been your only source of income since you came to the UK then there must have been some mix up.

Please don't just ignore it, if the inland revenue think you are self-employed they will chase you for a tax return too and if you ignore those you can be fined.

The amounts quoted refer to Class 2 National Insurance contributions, these normally run about 2.60 a week,

You at some stage have registered as self employed, call the national insurance Class 2 helpline, and explain the situation

If you get a tax return to complete, you must do it, this is the only way that you will get back any overpaid tax if you leave before the end of the tax year.
