No sound driver

Options
Hi, I had a T Mobile dongle and it did something to my computer a couple of weeks ago that made the usb ports unusable so I couldn't back up my files. It wouldn't load just kept going round and round.

I took the dongle in and he checked it, said it was broken and he would send it for repair. As it is 2 to 4 weeks for this I borrowed one for now but my computer has had to be wiped completely so everything has had to be reinstalled, unfortunately I now have no sound driver.

Is there anywhere I can download it for free, it is a legacy one from what I can gather. I am not really good with computers at all so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Go to the manufacturers website. They'll have a support and download section with them there.

If you post the exact make and model of your PC/Laptop then we will be able to track one down for you :)

Thanks for the help. The problem is that the man I bought it from built it so no manufacturers information. (I don't want to ask him for it as he seems incapable of fixing it despite coming out to it several times, I don't want him touching it again)
My friends husband has just come and fitted another sound card for me.
Thanks so much for the offers of help.

  • Click the start button, click on Run (or if you're using Vista/7 the empty bar will appear at the bottom), type, without the quotes, 'msinfo32' and press Enter. This will bring up the System Information window. Expand Components and locate the entry called Sound Device; click on it and in the right pane your sound card info will be displayed.

    Hello,

    1. If you're using Windows XP right click on My Computer and then click Properties. If it's Vista or 7 then click the Start 'orb' in bottom left corner then right click on 'Computer'

    2. On XP click Hardware tab then Device Manager - for Vista and 7 click Device Manager

    3. You should have an unknown device or one with an exclamation mark. Double click this item

    4. Click the 'Details' tab and then find the hardware id which should look like ven_xxxx&dev_yyyy (where xxxx and yyyy are numbers) This will identify the exact make and model

    5. Google for this code and you should find the driver.
