  • I just got a letter from these people telling me that they'd been appointed by major corporation to locate me in connnection withn unclaimed entitlements from a deceased aunt of mine. After reading these posts, It seems like a bit of a cheek, the amount of money they're charging, but as I've never had anything to do with shares and such, I don't know where else to go. If anyone has any advice, it would be much appreciated.
  • Seems like this isn't just me then, the point I'm getting at is that I told FP and I even filled in a form for change of address, so why should I be penalised for this? May ring FP up actually, if they have a number, lol
  • I recently had an unsolicited letter from ProSearch, alleging a small amount was due to the family estate from 2005 from HBOS and they'd been instructed by a high street bank.

I checked with HBOS who confirmed nothing was due to be paid.

    Ignore their letters!
  • I too have recently had a letter from prosearch and having read this thread I'm not going to reply if I can help it. However, I have no idea what shares these might relate too - all the letter says is that it is on behalf of a "major corporation". Can anyone help with advice on where to start finding out what the shares might be?

I recieved a letter with a BT letterhead saying that ProSearch had been instructed to advise me of £200 of unclaimed dividends & that to claim these I need simply fill out the form and return the share certificates.

Is this legal? If it's not true that they have been instructed then it sounds like fraud.
  • I have posted this elsewhere on the site.Just found this by accident. Both my brother and I have received letters from Pro search saying we might be entitled to money from our late grandmother. However,he researched and found that Pro search were up to no good. So,my question is,do we have any money to claim? If so,do I contact Equinity? Or,should I just contact Equinity staright away to alert them?

Back in September 2012 my father and I received a letter from Pro Search regarding outstanding shares for my deceased mother. The shares were from HBOS, who were bought out by Lloyds. We thought all of my mother's affairs had been sorted out when we had the probate done, so were a bit sceptical.
We contacted Equiniti but they said that Prosearch dealt with all their shares. If we wanted Equiniti to deal with the claim then their commission/handling charge was more than Prosearch's. We also asked why we hadn't received a letter about this prior to Prosearch's involvement, considering my dad has lived at the same address since 1966. They didn't have an answer.
As we had nothing to lose we completed the form received from Prosearch and returned it.
At the end of October (approx 6 weeks later) we received a cheque for the full amount of £340 - somehow they had not deducted their handling charge.
I would like to add that my dad was someone who thought it was a scam.
So to all those that are getting letters from Prosearch - just think it may be genuine. Phone them up and ask which account/person the claim relates, and if in doubt do the same with Equiniti. The money would be better in your pocket instead of their bank account.

Apparently Prosearch made an enquiry against my credit report recently. How could they do this?

Anyone can make a search against your credit history. It is a common thing to do when searching for people. The cost is quite high which stops most people doing this.

As per an earlier post Equitini are in fact the parent company of Prosearch as can be found with a quick check of companies house

  • I got a letter today from Prosearch and it has the Lloyds Banking Group logo at the top. It is telling me I have £93.70 in unpaid dividends that I can claim. All the other info is the same as has been mentioned above with the 12.5% + VAT charges.

I didn't think I had any shares now, so is it possible that these dividends were gained whilst I still had the shares but were never passed on?

Also, as it's Lloyds Banking Group would I try to contact Equiniti like others have done? Or should I be contacting Lloyds directly?

    Any advice appreciated.
  • Hi I received one as well today, so as a Lloydstsb customer I've sent them a complaint asking if what the people claim is true, if so why did they not contact me themselves also if true why did they pass my details to a third party without my permission, I finished off by saying if it wasn't true then I would pass the letter onto the police as a potential fraud.
