HSBC Online Transfer - wrong account, money gone, no help

Hi,
The simple story is that while making a transfer using HSBC Online I incorrectly paid a "firm/organisation" about £250. I chose "Pay a Bill" and incorrectly chose the option "Balance Trans Prog" which I assume is short for Balance Transfer Program.
It's obviously my fault but also there was no confirmation page etc. like most banks. Lloyds TSB even ring you up when paying someone new for the first time!
The problem is HSBC won't help me out neither on the phone or in branch. They say contact the other party but they can't give details out, which doesn't even sound like a company. They set up a "trace" but came to nothing.
I googled it and can't find anything... probably because it's just a phrase relating to credit cards rather than a company name.
Surely lots of people make mistakes like this. If I paid e.g. EDF by mistake surely I could just call up, but who have I paid?!?!

I always use the fund transfer section rather than bill payment; entering all the details yourself gives you some security, I usually make a small token payment first to ensure that all is in order. I hope you sort your problem out.0

Not alot really they can do as you sent the money0

It sounds to me like you've paid money into HSBC's balance transfer program, however, if there's one thing they can do, it's tell you where the money went.0

Was gunna say, the normal way of doing it makes you confirm all the details before you finally hit 'Confirm' =/0

Edit: This was for a Vanquis credit card.0 -
Just sent you a PM0

I've written a letter attached with the payment reciept from HSBC to:
BTP Customer Services
51 Saffron Road
Leicester
LE18 4US
requesting for the payment to be reimburst. No response.
What shall I do next? I note this is not an uncommon mistake due to deceptive nature of their name - "balance transfer programme."0 -
Are you certain that this is the company that has received your money? If so, then write a letter before action. and issue a money claim online if there is no response.0
-
I'm pretty certain it is as that's the only "balance transfer programme" company available. Yes, I'll send another letter and make another call to HSBC.0

What I'd suggest as well is to ask whoever you speak with to confirm for you the sortcode and account number for this a/c you've sent the money too. If you then google that sortcode and get the name and address of the bank, and write to them requesting they contact their customer to ask them to return the money as well, hopefully this company will at least pay attention to letters from their bank.DFW - DEBT FREEEEEE!
