Only need car insurance for 5 months

I'm leaving the country in January and my current car insurance policy runs out at the end of this month, so I need cover for 5 months (will sell the car in mid-December).

My quote from my current provider (Virgin) for annual cover is £638. UP on last year, but I've just read that this is normal as insurance is going up all the time. Grr.

I just got a quote from ecarinsurance - who have a pay-per-month policy that you can leave at any time - for £95 per month. Which would be £475 in total.

To save me giving out my details on another few sites - to get more quotes - I just wondered if anyone else had experience in this? I presume getting an annual deal (on pay monthly) and then cancelling it after 5 months would land me with a hefty cancellation fee?

It's a 1998 Fiesta, I live in SE London, am 33 with three years' NCD

Thanks

Footman James is for classic cars. Does anyone have any advice, please?

Footman James may be for classics, but I found on a price comparison site that my 2001 Ford Focus 2.0 ESP must be considered a classic by FMJ!

A warning however, the reason I got my policy is that it is less than 3,000-4,000 miles per year IIRC. That appears to be the main risk factor.

Coupled with this, when I received my policy I found I did not have DOC cover - I phoned them up as this is the first time I had a policy without DOC cover ever, even on TPF&T policies (I am 38 with 10 yrs NCB).

Turns out its because they are classic and limited mileage they don't do DOC. It's something that really hasn't affected me too much, but would be a nightmare if you are not aware of it! Always check the documentation.

In my case, the great cover minus DOC for limited mileage, vs paying +£200 just for the luxury of driving a mates old banger as a favour to an MOT station or whatever, the price is worth it.
