Three months warranty

Am I correct in thinking the catalytic converter is usually covered in a three month warranty given by a motor dealer?

No. Its covered by a lot longer than that - a minimum of 6 months under SOGA.

    Why do you ask?

Has it suddenly and mysteriously failed after visiting a "generic tyre/exhaust outlet" for some new tyre's? lol

No, I've only had the car two months and I firstly noticed it was a tad sluggish setting off then I noticed it was a bit noisier so I looked underneath and the Cat looks well worn with holes in it. When I rang the dealer I said the exhaust had gone and he thought that wasn't covered but I didn't mention the catalytic converter.

The CAT is a wear and tear part and unlikely to be covered. These warranties are a waste of space anyway, the small print always excludes everything that could ever go wrong.

Look at the various shops online for a price guide.
New CAT will be anything from £90 - £200 (depends on car) + fitting, it's a half hour job, so expect £40ish (1 hour) labour costs.
