I bought a dell computer off a friend and found the memory has only 10% left free.A lot of the memory seems to be used up with songs(he was a great music fan)theres literally a couple of thousand there.now the problem is I can delete them by clicking the mouse on them one at a time which will take forever but if I select all of them to delete in one go the com just freezes for a few moments then the select all feature goes back off,ie as if I hadnt selected anything.has anyone any ideas how to rid the com of all this music? many thanks.
counting down the time I got left.:beer:

What about if you go in safe mode and try to delete them all there .
But does the songs take up memory if you are not playing them ? They sit on your hard drive and use your hard drive space .0 -
Try selecting a few at a time (left click & hold, then drag over a few) & deleting that way
BTW it's HDD space thats low, memory is someting else0 -
my mistake (im not very computer literate)when I tried to defrag the com I get a message saying I have less than 2.3 gb available and used space of 68.7 gb from a capacity of 70.9 gb and as such it says it will take longer and slower to do.and when it finished it made no difference.counting down the time I got left.:beer:0

Your processor can't cope with deleting so many large files. Do as suggested and delete a few at a time. When you've finished then defrag, using Auslogics Defrag http://download.cnet.com/Auslogics-Disk-Defrag/3000-2094_4-10567503.html?part=dl-6267754&subj=dl&!!!!!button0

Reduce the size of the recycle bin as that usually keeps a percentage of the hard drive in reserve.0
-
Or perhaps increasethe bin until you've finished deleting and remember to delete all contents, then reduce.0

Delete them in blocks of 50 or so, select the first file while holding the Shift key and then work down a bit and click again, just delete them like that until they're history.
Remember to empty recyle bin between each delete."We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0 -
Highlight them all, right click on them (wait until the PC is ready), then hold the shift key down and select delete.
This will delete them immediately rather than trying to store them in the recycle bin.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -
If you either have all the files in one folder, or can move all the files into one folder, then this might be faster than deleting the files individually. If you are sure you want to delete the files then use the advice from KillerWatt to delete without putting the files into the recycle bin.0
