Warranty Transfer

Will someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this one. Regarding refunds, I always thought that companies operating within the UK were legally obliged to pay back customers in the same manner to which the customer purchased the item from them, ie if a customer pays for an item on a certain credit card, it would have to be paid back to the same card, or at very least the same customer. This is logical for fraud prevention reasons. So my question is this. How can people on ebay claim that when they have 'only had their item for 2 months' and it comes with a 12 month retail/manufacturers warranty that you will be able to return these items if they break down?

Warranties can have different T&Cs; some may allow transfer, some may not. This is true. But suppose it did break down and you wanted a repair/replace and had to send it off for this to occur. Surely its going to be blatantly obvious that Mr X who lives in aberdeen and has returned it is not the same Mr Y who lives in Devon who originally purchased the item from the retailer.0

Im looking to purchase an item on ebay which comes with a 12 months retail warranty and 2 year manufacturers warranty. I have contacted that manufacturer who have stated that their warranty is non-transferable and thus only applies to the original purchaser of an item. In regards the the retail warranty, I work at the head office of a national electronics retailer, of which I shall not name, and I know full well that any item that is returned to us for repair/replace/refund must be accompanied by proof of purchase to show that the item had been purchased from us, at which point the details used are those from the origianl transaction. That means anyone who has purchased any of the items we sell second hand are unable to use our retail warranty. What im really asking is...is this how all retailers work??0

Do you mean it is someone else who has purchased it from the retailer and is offering it with a 12 months retailers warranty?
And not that the seller on ebay is the retailer offering the warranty?
In that case i would report it to ebay as the buyer would have no recourse if the shop refused to honour the warranty as their contract is not with them, it is with the person who purchased the item in the first place.
It is the same if you buy a gift for someone, although some shops may allow you to, technically the contract is with the purchaser and not the person whom the item was intended for.
Theres also the possibility they are selling a few items of the same (possibly refurbs?) with a copied invoice/receipt from the retailer. Would the serial numbers match?
