Advice pls-My 3 old n benefits

Our 3 yr old daughter was diagnosed with prader-willi syndrome 2.5yrs ago now, n ive always been her primary carer while my husband worked. we have 2 other daughters also and she gets DLA, mobility and i get carers allowance for her. My husband has just been let go from work due to redundancies and to be honest i could do with the help but taking a 1300 a mnth cut will hit us really hard and i was wondering if there was any help we where entitled to. we are applying for council tax and rent benefits but we are unsure of what else we will be entitled to. any help would be very much appreciated.

Depending on what national isnurance he's paid in over the last 2 years, he might be able to claim contributions basd JSA.

If you are finding caring for your daughter difficult, contact your local Carer's Centre for support. Mine is invaluable.

Also, have you told tax credits that you receive DLA for your daughter? Depending on the rate of DLA (care component), you should recceive additional tax credits. Your CTC might increase anyway for the time that your husband is out of work, but remember to let them know when he finds employment again.

If the husband receives income based JSA then child tax credits will be paid at the maximum rate for the duration of the JSA claim.

i was in a similar situation i also get dla and carers for my five year old daughter and when my partner was made redundant we got child tax credits and housing bensfits and council tax benifits and income support best thing to do is phone the local jobcenter and they will ive you a phone number and you can start the claim from the day you phone so phone them on mon. the quicker you phone the quicker you can get some income which i am sure is much needed and in the time the are looking at your claim you can put in for somthing called a crisis loan which is for emergencies so there is somethings out there that can help.
good luck hope it all works out for you and your family;)

  • I think you possibly can claim income support and JSA - have you contacted your local citizens advice bureau - they are very helpful?
