Matiz ABS light

My 05 Matiz ABS light keeps coming on.

The garage reckoned they couldn't find anything wrong with it and I needed to bring it back when the light was on and they could run it through the computer. Well, I told them it comes on every time I go over ~50mph (which is about once a week) and stays on for the rest of the journey. The chap said he'd taken it down the motorway and it didn't come on. Well it happens 100% of the time when I'm driving so I don't believe him.

I've looked it up in the manual and if the light comes on the ABS is not working?

How much do I need to worry? And will it cost me a lot when I get someone who's willing to sort it?

Thanks.

You need a new mechanic! the ecu stores a fault code which will point to one or more wheel sensors.

Depends on how much you rely on ABS. If you only driven a car with abs then get it fixed ASAP. If you can candecent brake ie if you posses the supernatural abbility to pulse the pedel with your foot when the wheels begin to lock you will be fine.

Unless the sspeedo stopes working with the abs

You can go over 50 in a Matiz!?

That aside, have you considered taking it to a different mechanic? Although why the original one needs to take the car out to see the light come on himself seems a little pointless, I'm not sure what extra information that would give him.

Could be one of the wheel sensors failing.

Quite common to be honest with you.
Once the car has picked up speed and the wheels are turning at a certain speed the sensor may be defective and not able to keep up.

I would start with the ABS sensor as this will be the cheapest thing to look at, failing which your next move is modules that will cost a small fortune
