Heating Quote - good or bad

Hi

I have recently received a quote from a highly recommended local plumber. The following work has been given a price of £6500 and I was wondering if this was good or bad.

Complete installation of gas central heating, 8 radiators, 37cdi Worcester combi boiler + all pipework, removal of current cold water storage tank and all pipes, complete clean and flush of the system, 10 year guarantee on radiators and workmanship. Tha labour costs are £1800 (there will be 2 plumbers), £1000 VAT, £3800 for all materials.

Prices are likely to vary all around the country. It's recommended to get at least 3 quotes and work off them. Remembering cheapest is NOT always best, this guys reputation stands him in good stead though.

Are you sure you want a combi...?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • Hi

Why, what are the disadvantages to combi boilers? If we didn't have a combi we would still need to install a new cold and hot water tank as we currently have electric heaters.

in my opinion no...its bad price and you should be able to beat it easily. for a start the materials look expensive, the 37cdi on google ranges from 1100-1900 pounds. So is your fitter paying 1100 or 1900 theres a possible 800 quid saving. Thats assuming material cost are for standard items accross the board.

Get quotes there can be a 2000-3000 difference in prices. For same materials/job/quality.

I am sure some gas fitter will be along to defend there high prices.
  • Thanks, my gut reaction was that the material costs were high. I had anticipated approx £1200 for the boiler, and 8 radiators at an average cost of £90. This comes to less than 2k so what is the remaining £1800 for? How much is pipework and valves etc?

LOL depends how much pipework there is lol .Or if its copper etc

It is hard to price and if the materials are well out you can guarantee the labour is. They all use different supliers/trade accounts some are either at the ham or have naff trade accounts.

watch out because worcesters are good , but some of the other boiler manufacturers are offering very good warranties also and are reliable.

Ill go see if i can find out what i paid last year for full install on a 3 bed with 2 offices.

ok got it 2980 inc vat
    materials 1900.

Worcester 25???(cant remember exact model) but we changed to higher spec glowworm
    copper pipe
8 rads and pipework for a further one(we fitted 9th)
    trv's
new gas pipe for cooker and new gas pipe run to boiler
Property never had CH and never had gas in(we got gas meter installed). Sandstone walls.

and we blagged the pipework for the 9th rad.
We had a small problem in that a bricked up door was not properly bricked up in 19 oatcake. This was where we were hanging the boiler. CH work had to stop for 2 days. Because of this the fitter was finished early one day , i managed to get him to fit a fire valve on an oil central heating system for FREE(in another property we own).

No extra charge for the install taking an extra 2 days.
  • ok, time for me to get some more quotes then i think. Thanks for letting me know.

Cannot remember total duration of install. But there were 2 of them.

One did all the soldering/pipework. gaffer did most of the cutting, drilling prepping work.

it will vary region too region but not silly money wise.
