To run a sink full of hot water (for pot washing) from a gas central heating system or boiling a kettle of water?
Just wondering as I am about to wash the pots. :T Yeha it must be Christmas.

I'd go for a sink full of water from the tap, basically because you already have the hot water to use anyway.
If you were starting from scratch, then I don't know.0 -
Thankyou - I think i will boil the kettle as I can get a cup of tea out of it also.

Part of this equation will be the length of your pipe run from the hot water tank, and therefore how much water you have to let run away before the hot water reaches the tap. However much that is, you leave the same amount of hot water in the pipe when you turn off the tap and it gets cold surprisingly quickly. (When we were trying to decide whether to buy a dishwasher I measured how much water we drew off before getting hot, and we wasted more than the dishwasher we chose used for the whole cycle, heating it from cold).0

If you already have warm/hot water from your central heating system then it makes sense to use it rather than let it cool in your hot water tank, only to be reheated when the thermostat senses that the temperature has dropped.
If you have to put the immersion heater on to heat the water, then I'm not sure whether the kettle would be more cost effective. If this is the case you might get a more comprehensive answer on the Gas and Electric board or the In My Home board.
Let me know if you would like me to move your thread over to either of those.
