Hi there can anyone advise about the above plant which we have in a large concrete planter which is looking good with lovely red blooms.I have been advised by a friend that we will do well to keep it over winter because they do not like the chilly weather, can someone please advise what to do with the plant over winter or any tips on looking after it because we do not have a greenhouse or facility to store indoors other than the garage ?

Depends where in the UK you are, down south its not unknown for them to survive however Ooop Norf may be more difficult.

While people say that down South you don't need to protect your plants due to the snow last year lots of people lost plants that they had survived in previous years outside with no protection.

I cover all my plants that are tender in containers with fleece covers like this - http://www.crocus.co.uk/product/_/fleece-bags/classid.2000008848/

You can get them from ebay, chain garden centres like Squires or independent garden centres.

Depending on the plant you may still need to water it lightly every week or two weeks depending on the temperate.

Edited to say: The biggest one is designed to cover container trees and bushes.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

There are different varieties of callistemon. Is yours the very thin leafed one, quite rigid and dark green? This one is generally fairly hardy. You can also get a light green/reddish soft hairy leafed one which is not winter hardy.
