Earning money in annual leave time

Firstly Hi everyone, I am a new DFW, I have been brave and listed my huge debt on my signature.

I was just wondering if any one had any good tips for earning some money during annual leave. I have a lot left to take and don't want to splurge money on a holiday. Due to my job (travelling not set hours etc) I can't get a 2nd job but would love to earn some money whilst having to take annual leave, any ideas gratefully received.

Today I am strating to reduce my debt. I have started keeping my change and am writing down all that I spend. I am lucky that I can earn quite large bonuses so have been pushing especially hard to reach target knowing it could help me reduce my debt even quicker.

Well, if you hold off for a couple of months you might find businesses and shops will be taking on Christmas staff for a few weeks at a time. That might work quite nicely.
  • Have you anything to sell on eBay or Amazon?

  • Doing the E-bay thing and mum is loading the car with all my books (a complete book freak) so I can sell them.

It would have to be a job I can do for a week or 2

I'd start looking around or asking agencies etc for christmas work - so many businesses take on extra staff for a short period of time, it might work out quite nicely for you.

Other than that, maybe think about signing up for a temp agency to cover a couple of weeks, some of that work is done on a daily basis.

A bank job? or maybe a post office?

More seriously if you are not bothered about what you do, how about child minding/babysitting, gardening, cleaning ironing? they should all pay folding.

I'd second about the christmas work. Also if you can bear to work on christmas day as a waitress or bar person you could get triple time.

  • How does your current employer feel about this?

I hate to put a dampener on things, but I would be worried about staff becoming overstressed if they used ALL their leave working for a 2nd employer. :o Do remember to check your contract of employment to make sure you are allowed to take on a 2nd job at all

(I do appreciate that things like babysitting are very different from doing an 8 hour shift in a factory every day. And employers are generally not allowed to stop you taking on a 2nd job unless it's specified in your contract, or there's a good reason like you'd be working for a competitor).

Just trying to ensure you've covered all the bases.....

Amazon is ace for selling books - they do the advertising and have such a huge audience of potential customers.

There is leaflet/newspaper delivering, Betterware/Avon Rounds, car Boots/Jumble Sales/Ebay, factory work/greenhouse work that may employ casuals near you, free lance drivers/delivery guys, garage sales, telephone operators, chat line hosts/hostesses of the clean variety of course :D and if you get really desperate you could hire yourself out as a dog walker/house sitter.

    Good luck xxx
