Evening everyone
Hope someone can provide some info for me
Basically my dad owns houses and it will be my inheritance but as i cannot find any ones i like, he is giving me one now. Although he will only sign it over to my name, not my OH too
Where will my husband stand in owning part of this? Will it really matter if his name isnt down as owning it?
Thank you

When its in your name, you can do what you like...sign it over to the local cat home, get your OH on the deeds, whatever...Act in haste, repent at leisure.

But your dad thinks he's a shifty looking bugg4h and doesn't want him swanning off with half that house in 5 years' time.0

Will you be living in the house together or is it an investment property only and rented out to someone else?0

No offence but isn't this exactly what your Dad is worrying about? Your Dad is trying to give you somewhere to live, you'll be paying no rent or mortgage (presumably) and because you've signed half of it over to your husband, he'll be entitled to half of it when he runs off with a floosie!
Is your Dad expected to then give you another house or the money to pay off the husband?
I'm sure you will be married for years and years and grow old in this house together, however why risk it? Your father certainly doesn't want you to, what will he say when you immeadiately go and sign half of it over? Or more likely when you don't tell him and your husband leaves you (potentially)?
Is your husband complaining about the arrangement? At the end of the day you are being given a house for free, if I was your husband I'd be pretty chuffed

The husband will gain some rights under the matrimonial homes act anyway.
Personally I would just keep it in your name, it shouldn't make that much difference if hubby is going to live there anyway and avoids any future fall outs with your dad.

I'd go with the last two posters. End of the day, you are a newlywed and your father is just trying to protect you. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

How about your dad setting it up in a trust fund? Would also help you from being worth more dead than alive - people do strange things and money is a great motivator.
I'm going along with the last three posters above too.
I can see where your dad is coming from, 25%-ish end in divorce and your dad has worked hard, probably too hard to gamble away a lifetimes savings.0 -
Any assets accrued during the marriage (eg house, car, shares etc) are considered assets of the marriage so that in the event of a divorce, regardless of whose name is on the deeds, the house would be an asset to be split between the two parties.
This is the starting point, and will obviously be varied depending on factors such as children, length of marriage, etc and you could negotiate to keep the house for, eg, not touching his pension.
If you divorce but fail to get a clean break order, later down the line the husband would have a claim on the rest of the inheritance as well.
Don't tell your dad. Otherwise the name on the deeds will stay firmly his. And how he will do the will is anyone's guess.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
