Travel Insurance Customer Satisfaction - How good were they dealing with your claim?

I am looking to buy some travel insurance. Whilst price is a consideration, I want a insurance company that is going to come up with the goods when something goes wrong.

With everything that has been going on recently (volcanic ash, BA strikes etc) what has been your experience (good or bad) with the company you insured with.

Thanks in advance:j

I got mine from Argos (Chartis I think) for my trip to South Africa in April. When it was time to go home and we couldn't fly due to the volcano, they were great. I eventually got £300 for delays. It took them about 6 weeks to pay out and I'm quite pleased with the way they dealt with the claim.
I never bought the cheapest policy though, I got the next level up.

Would I use them again, yes I would.

We have annual travel insurance with the AA, not cheap but covers some special requirements. When we cancelled our flight to Sri Lanka because of a close family member's cancer diagnosis they were excellent. Our refund took only a couple of weeks.

Checkout the many posts here about AXA. You might as well have no insurance. Actually, it's worse than that - they don't like paying their bills. As a result, it's very likely that debt collectors will end up chasing YOU, as the policyholder. Be warned.
  • Thanks for the replies. I have seen many things about AXA on these threads, but quite a few policies are underwritten by AXA or use their services for processing claims. I will check the AA out and Argos.
