Don't panic. I did that same. Decided to aply to uni through clearing. My loan came about two weeks late, which wasn't bad. Accommodation fees waited unitl it came, they are very understanding. Just don't panic. Uni deals with loads of these issues every year. Everything will be ok. Try to get through to them, if you can't then when your daughter goes to university tell her to go to the student finance place and they'll help her.

Has she got an overdraft? these are interest free and good for paying any deposits etc for accomodation until her loan comes through.

    Good luck
    Don't panic :)

ps: i got an hardship loan one time when I didn't have enough money to last until the loan came through. basically filled out a form with why i needed it and what expenses i needed to cover and they decided how much they would lend me from that. :)

Thank you, I really need the DONT PANIC. My daughter is being very blaise about it all, not showing any sign of urgency, its left to me to do the panicing. I think what threw me this mornig was the horrible cold person I spoke to about the student loan. Completley callous. Almost as if we were bothering her with stupid questions.

My daughter had to go into the bank this morning about the student account she tried to open last week. They had not asked for her id last week and had taken a week to contact her to ask for it. So I rang to ask and they said it might take up to 14 days for her card etc to arrive. I will have to send it up to her. She will go up on saturday without anything set up, no student account, no student loan, no job and no money.

They dont really tell you this when you try to go through clearing, the student loan problems, the lack of accomadation within halls etc

  • I applied through clearing last year and my loan came in on time. I got my place confirmed in the middle of August and Uni started on the 24 September. I wasn't told there was a deadline but then I'm Scottish so maybe the Scottish system is different?
