If it isn't going to cause her any problems financially and she is more than happy to give it to you then i think you should accept it. Swap the situation around, would you be happy to give the money to her if she needed it? I suspect you would, so as long as she is in a position to give you the money without it causing her problems then accept it. Maybe insist on repaying it once you have the money, or maybe buy her something extra special when you can as a thank you.
  • After having a really long think about it I accepted my nan's help. I talked to her again to make sure she was okay about it and she explained to me that each year she gets a fixed amount of money out of her account which is from my Grandad passing away, he had a lot of insurance policies and left her very comfortable financially.

I was also unaware that she had paid my brothers accommodation fees whilst he was at uni for 3 years, I thought I was the only one who needed help!

I do take my nan shopping and out places as she doesn't drive so will make an extra effort to make more time for her.

I have also sold a few things on ebay and paid a few credit card bills as it is payday - really like the look of my new signature figures.

I agree with dancingfairy - your Nan would get pleasure seeing you happy so what's the point of refusing her that pleasure now just to take the money from her will after she's gone (hope that makes sense....I know what I mean, lol).

My Mum has given money to my children over the years to help them out of difficulties when I was unable to help. I hope I'll be in a position to help my grandchild when he's older if he needs it.

Go ahead, tell your Nan how lucky you feel to have her and make sure you spend it wisely - that will make you both happy :)

    Hi Dizzyblonde.

I'm pleased that you decided to let your Nan help. She seems to be ok financially and you dont strike me as someone who hasn't learned how to manage your money. Well done on clearing so much debt in such a short space of time
I think there is the danger that bailing someone out of debt actually doesnt help them in the long run, if they havent learnt from past mistakes etc. Also a family member taking out credit to pay off credit wouldn't be a good idea, but thats not the case here.

Personally if it were me, and i was in a position to help, i would, and would be heartbroken if my children/grandchildren didnt let me. You probably dont realize how happy you have made your Nan.

Good luck to you and your family. I wish you all the best.
