Hi folks
I recently acquired a new laptop (a Toshiba Satellite Pro U500-1E5) which is very nice but unfortunately only has 2 USB ports, and I need several more than this.
I picked up a very cheap 4 port USB hub from minigadget.co.uk, but it doesn't work - Windows won't recognise/install the device (the LED light on the hub comes on, indicating that it is receiving power, but none of the ports work).
Consequently I'm on the look out for a USB hub that actually works with 64-bit Windows 7. Is anyone currently using one that they would recommend? I'd prefer a 4 or 7 port hub if possible.
Many thanks!

Have you tried the hub in another machine to make sure it's not that?0

yes seems to work ok in another machine running XP (although it's very slow, so I guess I might be better off with one with an external power supply).
- you certainly will [ external power supply ] if you chain 7 or more devices to it !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Is it usb2 or usb1? I'm using one from Poundland. 4 hub which is USB1. However using Windows 7 64 bit it seems to work fine with printer and a couple of flash drives plugged in.0

You might need a USB hub with a power supply. Some laptops don't provide enough current on the USB ports. That's why some external USB hard disks come with a Y-USB cable to make them work on such laptops.0 -
Y cable : x2A to B or x2A to mini B fo a single item only.
- this product is sold all over the world badged. For example ALDi / Medion Brand / carp quality but works ok !
- other end of quality, works brill
I hope this helps.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Yes, this is what I'll have to go for I think. My live would have been made easier if Toshiba had just included a couple more usb ports on the machine - I never had this problem with my old Dell!Midas.0
