I have a sagem hard drive recorder and today I have tried to export a file. The only thing is, it exports it as a ts file. Ive had a look online at what to use to watch it and VLC is recommended. I've downloaded that and it doesnt want to play my file.
Any ideas?

How big is the file? was it a HD or SD (normal definition) program you recorded??
.ts - Transport Stream file (used for recording TV that's broadcast over satalite, cable and air)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG_transport_stream
VLC should play it since it's just a mpg in a container including things like: start - finish times, show info and subtitles.
It *MIGHT* be encrypted if it's a HD program (most, if not all, HD-DVR's encrypt their HD content so it can only be played back on that device.)
there's usually another file that goes with it .mtsLaters

Thanks for your reply. When I exported it to a flash drive, it created the .ts file and another .vdbsag file. VLC doesnt like either of them. My Sagem is not a HD one and the file itself is 1.6 gig.
I only bought the hard drive because it said you could move programmes onto a flash drive using the USB connection. I cant see the point though if you cannot play the files on any other machine/computer.0 -
Hmm... VLC should be able to play anything thrown at it.
It has done with me...
what error is VLC giving you?Laters

I'm not getting an error as such, it loads up the file (the file name appears along the bottom) but when you click play, nothing happens. Im just using something called PVAStrumento to see what that does at the moment.0 -
play it using VLC then in vlc go to "tools" then "Codec details"
it should say "stream 0" & "stream 1"
what does it say next to "Type" & "Codec"?Laters

If you open the transport stream with PVAStrumento and press the 'Make PS' button you should get an mpg file.0

PVAStrumento doesn't reencode, it just remuxes. The quality should be identical unless there are errors in the stream. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0
