How to organise mp3 player?

I've synced (over months/years) from windows music player to my player and although I've put some tracks in folders its still not alphabetical. When I plug it into a computer all the folders are in alphabetical order, but the player on its own is not.
If starting from scratch: maybe creating folders via laptop, whilst the mp3 player is plugged into it and cutting and pasting the tracks to them would solve the problem?
However there is 1Gb of music stored on the player (full to capacity) so its not really practical to do that. By the way its just an unbranded model. Any ideas?

"Media Monkey" all looks well and good but how do I organize my mp3 player, this software appears to organize by artist/track etc. But I already have various artists under folders for, say "pop", "Rock" etc?0 -
Can you say exactly what it is you're trying to achieve here? e.g. do you want all your mp3s to be in folders with one folder per artist on your mp3 player. Or do you want them all as a flat list , or (as you currently have) in folders by genre, etc
do you know about mp3 tagging ?(click here) does your player organise by filename or id3 tags ? Can you make playlists and does your player support them?0 -

I have know instructions with the player. The thing with MM is that as far as I can see (I know I'm probably missing something) is that it only organizes computers and with mp3 players only before the music is synced to it. I want to organize with the music already on it. I can rename the music: artist, track etc on my laptop, but can't place it in alphabetical order on the player.
Maybe I'm not being clear enough? So to give an example of the problem I'm having: Say, there is a folder of Beethoven tracks with the next folder along being ZZ Top tracks. Now how can I move the "ZZ" folder to the back of the running order?0 -
There are two levels of labelling mp3 files - one is by (foldername and filename) and the other is by (tags). I'm guessing that your problem is that when you look at the files on your computer, you are using the first method, but the playback software on your player is using the second method. I'm guessing that many of your files aren't tagged or are tagged incorrectly.
The most robust solution is to make sure that all your files are named, organised AND TAGGED as you want them to be on your computer, delete everything from the player and then copy everything (or synch them) from your computer onto your player.
There are many tools for tagging mp3s. It looks like Media Monkey will tag stuff on your computer and on your player (if you really just want to change the versions on your player), but I haven't looked at it in detail. Alternatively, gooogle "mp3 tagging software".
That's my best guess, it's difficult to answer without better knowledge of your setup.0 -

Errr..... no, completely baffled!
What I want to do is so simple but there appears to be no simple solution. Think I'll give up and get a new player.0 -
Can you use a playlist on the MP3 player? If so, you could create a playlist on your PC of all the songs in the order you want them to play, then copy this to the MP3 player.0
